Benign Acquired Nevi

  • Common nevi have a wide variety of clinical appearances
  • They are symmetric with homogeneous surface and even pigmentation
  • Often concentrated on sun exposed areas of the trunk
  • Less commonly on palms, soles
  • Tend to increase in number during childhood and adolescence
  • Most of them remain benign throughout the lifetime
  • Having a large number increases the risk of melanoma
  • Periodic total body examinations are recommended to lower the risk
